Jason Dominy Takes 2nd Place At The First Southeast Brewer's Cup

Jason Dominy of Atlanta’s Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters took second place in the first Southeast Regional Brewer’s Cup, a hand-brewing coffee competition that was part of the recent Southeast Regional Barista Championships held in Atlanta.

Dominy is the Customer Support and Outreach Coordinator for Batdorf & Bronson and a fixture in the Atlanta coffee community. Regulars at the Dancing Goats Coffee Bar in Decatur welcome him most Fridays when he stops by to hand-brew coffee for customers in the morning. He is also the creator of Atlanta’s version of the “Disloyalty Card,” which encourages coffee lover’s to visit several coffeehouses in the metro area to earn a free cup. Visit to learn more.

Over 100 people gathered at the Georgia World Congress Center to watch finalists, including Batdorf & Bronson’s Atlanta Training Manager, Chandler Rentz, compete for the Southeast Regional Barista Championship and the Brewer’s Cup. In addition to Dominy, Dancing Goats Coffee Bar barista, Randy Harrell, competed as a finalist in the Brewer’s Cup. The Dancing Goats Coffee Bar in Decatur is owned and Operated by Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roasters.

Although competitors in the Brewer’s Cup all used the same coffee in the first round, they used a coffee of their choice for the finals. Dominy chose Batdorf & Bronson’s Colombia Estrella Del Sur. Competitors had 10 minutes to prepare three cups of coffee for three judges using the hand brewing method of their choice. Dominy used the “Clever” cone, which is a hybrid full immersion/pourover brewer.

Dominy is the second Batdorf & Bronson employee to place in a regional Brewer’s Cup competition. Will Frith, who works in the Training and Education Department, recently took third place in the Northwest competition.

Both Dominy and Frith will now compete in the National Brewer’s Cup competition to be held during the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s annual convention in Houston, April 27 – May 1, 2011.
